Why choose Rancho Encinitas Academy?

Rancho Encinitas Academy campus covers two acres of landscaped grounds with its sister school, Edison Academy. There are 7 separate buildings custom designed and constructed especially for the school.  The campus, with its architecture, landscaping, and proximity to the ocean is conducive to a safe, relaxing and tranquil learning experience. This campus was designed to reduce stress and anxiety so that a child's focus may be on learning. REA ‘s unique learning environment is enhanced by bird aviaries and bunny hutches on campus. Students eat lunch at outdoor picnic tables with friends from other classes. There are three outdoor playground areas from which students may select, when they plan their personal development activity for the day. Jobs time at school includes recycling, grounds keeping and feeding the animals, activities which promote responsibility.

REA is accredited by the National Private Schools Accreditation Alliance.


What qualifications do the teachers have?

The teachers are certified in regular education.


What grades does REA serve?

It serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 8, in multi-level classrooms.


What is the student-teacher ratio?

There are a maximum of 20 students in a REA class with one Teacher and a full-time Aide.


Does REA follow the CA state standards?

REA is in compliance with CA state standards and follows the curriculum set by the State.


Are parents expected to help with homework?

Our homework policy is that the assignment be completed independently by the student. Parents are not to be involved with the student’s work. If the student does not understand a concept that was explained in the class, the teacher will go over the concept to ensure mastery.


Do the students go on field trips?

Students often go on educational field trips to enhance a study unit. In addition, students in grades 5 through 8 have two overnight trips during the school year based on accountability and behavior.


Does REA have after-school clubs?

After-school clubs are available for a fee. Diverse school clubs like music, art, drama, robotics and PE, are offered during the school session. Also, during off-track times, students can choose from clubs that offer varying themes.


Is there an after-care program?

After-care services are available on campus until 5:30PM every day. Fees for these services are not included in the tuition.


Does REA have a dress code?

Students are required to wear solid-color polo shirts and solid-color pants, shorts or plaid or plain skorts, which have to be no more than 2” above the knee. Athletic shoes are required on PE days. Sandals, wheelies, flip flops and heels are not allowed.


What does personal development or PD mean?

After lunch each day, students are given time for personal development which involves making a choice from pre-existing categories, which include playing an outdoor game, playing a board game with another student, playing on the computer, drawing, or reading. This takes the place of recess and the students are supervised at this time by teacher aides.
